The story of "Tanuki no Nanabei-san," the guardian deity of the Kyoto store

The guardian deity of AIN SOPH. Journey KYOTO, " Shichibe-san".

アインソフジャーニー京都たぬきの七兵衛さん

"Tanuki no Nanabei-san" is enshrined in the Kyoto store.

The second Kyogoku-street in Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto, where the Kyoto store is located.

This place was the precincts of a temple called Kankikoji in the Edo period.

It is said that the  raccoon dogs were inhibited in the bamboo grove of the house which was built by Hideyoshi Toyotomi.

After the Meiji Restoration, when Shinkyogoku-street opened and became a downtown area, three large raccoon dogs were found dead around Nishiki-Tenmangu Shrine.

The raccoon dogs were buried by the people of this area, and those three,  Rokubei, Shichibei, and Hachibei, were worshiped as guardian deities to purify the area.

Of these, Shichibei was enshrined in Shinkyogoku Park, but in order to protect it from air raids during the war, "Marusan Shokudo" located  in the west of the park, took over and keeped protecting it over the years.

Now, the building is  owned by us,  "AIN SOPH. Journey KYOTO".

Customers who order our parfait can draw "Fortune "for Shichibei.

When we think about it at that time, we feel we are protected by something invisible and powerful.

Please enjoy your meals with feeling its history at AIN SOPH. Journey KYOTO.
